Los Altos Robotics is in need of some volunteer judges for the local First Lego League kids competition.  I've done this before -- it is a great way to give back to the community.  If you are interested, please contact Sriram Chelluri at [address removed] as soon as possible.  Details below.

Steve

This year the tournament is scheduled to be on November 21st, the Saturday before Thanksgiving.

The tournament is for teams from our local elementary & middle schools, and is part of the FIRST LEGO League (FLL).

The judges will critique the teams during the scheduled 15 minute judging time slots. Judging results will be used as the basis for several award categories and the overall "Champions Award."  You can find additional information about judging at the PlayingAtlearning web site (see below).

Some of the details for the judge volunteers are:

Judging categories:

·         Robot Design/Innovation and Programming

·         Teamwork/FLL Values

·         Project Presentation

Time commitments:

·         2 hour Judges training (Location and time will be sent in a separate email.  Self-paced training materials are also available for those that can not attend a training session.)

·         11/21/09 – Los Altos Tournament 12:00-5:00pm

No special knowledge besides interest in working with kids is required.

If you would like to volunteer as a judge, please provide the following information:

Your name:

Phone number:

Email address (Primary contact):

Judging experience (Yes/No):

Category preference (Design/Teamwork/Presentation):

If judging positions are still available, I will send the Judges’ Handbook, Conflict Disclosure statement and background rules for this year’s Smart Move Mission. Please review  the documents prior to the Judges Training session provided by Nor Cal.  At a minimum there is a 1-hour web based training for your review.

The Los Altos Scrimmage will take place (Nov 21st)  in the Multi Purpose room at Blach IntermediateSchool, which is located at 1120 Covington Road, Los Altos (www.blachschool.org).  The Multi Purpose room is in the building nearest to the street.

Thank you for your help.
