A very enjoyable and provocative presentation and discussion -
One of the best among a group of consistently informative seminars. Monica's key theme is that AI needs to move away from the canned (closed form) F=ma methodology of traditional AI and toward the open-ended, contingent biologic part of the cognitive spectrum. The rationale for doing so was justified by a collection of well chosen real-world examples. Monica's emphasis on MFMs is amplified by increasing resonance in the corporate world of search, machine translation, speech, and robotics. On a rainy day, she presented to a full house and ably moderated a vibrant discussion.— Bob Blum

Frank gave a clear, comprehensive introduction to the problem of understanding a visual scene using neural apparatus. He was thoroughly prepared with about 120 slides. The audience was enthusiastic, and QA was high-level and thought provoking. Well done!

I don't have much exposure about Cognitive Vision, so the talk was a great chance to learn what's it about (a lot of neurophysiology + psychology + anatomy...., from what I can see). Many interesting example about how the brain works was shown at the beginning of the talk as well as in-depth knowledge during and after the presentation -

This was my first AI meetup. It was a terrific event! I was particularly impressed with the cohesiveness of the discussion considering both the size of audience and how formative and even experimental the topics are. Also Monica did a terrific job both leading and facilitating the discussion.

Monica made a stimulating presentation; she puts a interesting and passionate angle on AI issues of perennial interest. Add some great questions from the audience, and you have the recipe for a meeting that reverberates and invites follow-up. -
Interesting, philosphical, general. Would have been stronger with a demo of the technology discussed even if it does not perform as well as the model-based methods (yet). -

My favorite group. -
Great topic; technical difficulties. Might want to make future setups more modular, so taking individual elements offline was easier (and add the newest and riskiest items last, so a) they can be left off for lack of time; b) if they break something, they can be easily backed out.
