Jim Peterson: Learning a Lot from a Little: Evolving AIs

TechShop (map)

Selected By: Monica

This talk will review AI research into evolving a checkers playing program, as discussed in the book "Blondie24: Playing at the Edge of AI", by David Fogel (2002). We will have the opportunity to discuss game playing programs, artificial neural networks, and computer simulated evolution. Some reference will also be made to computer backgammon.

Presented by Jim Peterson, currently a student of AI. Not an expert in either checkers or backgammon, Jim has degrees in Applied Physics from Caltech and in Engineering from UCLA, and has been a manager and engineer in software and hardware companies.

The link to the Cosmos and Culture free PDF book that Bob Blum mentioned is: http://ntrs.nasa.gov/archive/nasa/casi.ntrs.nasa.gov/2010...
This is a 612 page free book that is very interesting (I've only skimmed a few of the articles). Thanks Bob!

PS: By the way, I attended even though I did not RSVP and I thought it was a very interesting meetup - thanks Jim!
