Kurzweil versus Gelernter
We will watch and discuss the video http://mitworld.mit.e... which is a debate held November 2006 at MIT between Ray Kurzweil and David Gelernter moderated by Rodney Brooks. It's an excellent video that touches on many of the key issues of the field. We'll pause after each speaker has had their turn to reflect on what they said. Feel free to watch the video ahead of time so that you can prepare for our own lively discussion, which (as usual) I expect to continue for the full two hours of our meeting.

Howell JohnsonThe video material was good but the discussions were even better and featured some really diverse viewpoints. Monica does a great job of keeping the focus while giving everyone a chance to expound their views. This is a great venue, not only for learning about the subject but also for sounding out your own ideas and getting feedback from others.
